We invite you to join us in touring one of the largest classrooms in the world! Observe our school in action and learn how education is delivered using technology ‘in the bush’.

The 'Longreach School of Distance Education' (formerly known as Longreach School of the Air) is a unique experience and is one of sixteen distance education schools in the country; and one of seven in QLD.

Our 1hour guided tour includes

  • an overview of distance education in the bush
  • a 10 minute video showcasing our students day to day lives at home
  • a 'live' on-air lesson with our students and teachers
  • viewing our students unique creativity while strolling through the grounds
  • learning how you can become part of our 'Books for the Bush' fundraiser

Pricing 

  • ​Adults $18.00
  • Concession $15.00
  • Children $12.00 (4-16 years)

  *Under 4 years FREE

  • Adult groups (20+ people) $10.00 
  • Family (2 Adults & up to three children) $50.00

Bookings for tours

Guided Tours take 1hr and are run twice daily at 9:30 am and 11:00am, Monday to Friday; LSODE Tours are closed on all Public holidays.

Bookings are essential.

Souvenirs

We have many fine souvenirs available at the Longreach School of Distance Education. Proceeds from sales are used to provide support and resources that directly benefit students. Examples include support for Minischools, camps, swim camps, computers, phones and upgrades to facilities such as playground equipment. 

Souvenirs are available to purchase upon your visit, or by emailing your order to the school at tours1@eq.edu.au

Location 

The school is located on the historic Landsborough Highway and is one of the many attractions to be found in Longreach. Located East of the Longreach Stockman's Hall of Fame or West of the Australian Agricultural College. 

Parking 

Parking is available outside the school grounds, and is able to accommodate larger vehicles including Caravans, Motorhomes and Buses.
